Mirror of A Movement, 1965

• The lecturers came to desire a missionary
  procedure which would more effectively involve
  the hundreds of small congregations. But they
  also sought a program whose scope would be more
  far-reaching than even the best, but isolated
  efforts of any one large congregation. They could
  not resist the temptation to shop about and
  contrast their plight with the obvious strong
  points in denominational machinery
  (William Banowsky, p. 313).

Rejection of Bible Pattern

• Is it coincidence that we have developed a
  controversy about the role of women in the
  assembly about the time we developed the idea
  of a new hermeneutic? It is certainly true that
  you cant biblically justify the leadership role
  of women in the assembly by using the old
  hermeneutic! If you cannot prove that it is
  right to do something with the old hermeneutic,
  you must adopt a new one, or
  abandon the idea (Royce
  Money, Christian Chronicle 5/93).

  Study context to whom was it
  given, what was their situation, am I in a
  similar situation?

• Whose inference will we accept?
• It must be implied in Scripture not something
  one wishes to be true.
• How do we know that any of the Bible applies to
  us?
• By a necessary inference!

Conclusion

• Jesus explained (hermeneuo) the Scriptures
  (Lk. 2427-32)
• A form of the word also found in Jn. 142
  Heb. 72 (translated) 1 Cor. 1210 1426
  (interpretation)
• Jesus appealed to what Moses wrote, Lk. 1026-28
• The New Hermeneutic is not following the example
  of Jesus, nor of Spirit-guided men!
