Title: THE PROSPERITY PROJECT
1THE PROSPERITY PROJECT
- Because the land and the food are our real wealth
2 3Hidden risks to human and planetary health in
commercially produced foods.
4Hidden risks to human and planetary health in
commercially produced foods.
5As oil prices rise, so do food prices. Already
there are food riots in some parts of the planet.
People need to claim their inherent right-and
responsibility-for growing the food they wish to
eat, in a healthful, natural way.
6In our current system, much food goes to waste
while some members of society cannot afford to
purchase good food.
7Latino day laborers hang out on street corners
hopefully waiting for work, while most North
Americans are too busy and exhausted to garden.
8the unhealthy dependence on both, foreign and
domestic oil continues.
9Factory farms contribute more pollution to the
environment than cars do.
10Over 1,000,000 acres of farmland are disappearing
from america every year
11If all bees disappear, humanity has four years to
live.
12 13Collaborating with Marin Organic, Regenerative
Design Institute and Post Carbon Marin, we will
create new organic gardens in Marin County that
will provide us with sustainability- or true
Homeland Security-through local sources of food.
14Through educating as many local residents as
possible, we will increase awareness of Peak Oil
and the unnatural practices of agribusiness.
15We plan to create a school of Organic Gardening-
La Escuela de Jardineria Organica-for spanish
speaking day laborers, who will be given
financial support through scholarships and
stipends. In this way, we will get them off the
streets and provide them with a useful purpose
and occupation.
16We plan to create a Bounty Hunters program,
similar to Petaluma Bountys, so as to
redistribute excess food to people in need.
17To educate how to reduce meat consuption by 10
locally.
18We will preserve open spaces in marin county in
perpetuity, thus protecting them form
destruction by development.
19 20Educational outreach
- Staff and volunteers will distribute literature
and teach daily classes about the food crisis.the
classes will include organic gardening as a
viable solution.
21- We will educate farm workers in both Spanish and
English in the theory and hands on practices of
organic farming, gardening and edible landscaping.
22- We will host monthly community potlucks and
celebrations to promote human health through
delicious, healthful nutrition.
