Data sources for hours worked
  • Microcensus micro data (including Austrian LFS)
  • Quaterly microcensus at the micro level for the
    years 1981, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998,
    1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 are already at WIFO
  • Remaining microcensus data (1970-1990, 1992,
    1994) are also available at the micro level and
    can be purchased for about 7500 euro from the
    statistical office.
  • Microcensus contains questions on weekly normal
    hours workers and weekly actual hours.
  • Microcensus LFS 922, 951, 961, 971, 981,
    991, 20011, 20021, 20031 include additional
    questions on hours worked (number of overtime
    hours, reasons for differences between actual and
    normal hours worked, actually worked hours on
    secondary or multiple job.
  • Microcensus 20012, 19913, 19973, 19823
    contains a number of questions on working time
    arrangements (i) Overtime hours in reference
    week, (ii) Paid overtime hours in the reference
    week, (iii) Shift work patterns, (iv) Variable
    working times, (v) Compensation of credit hours
  • Problems to be addressed item-non response,
    large number of zero hours of employed persons
