Structure

• Divide the composition into different sections
  and arrange the order
• Develop a chord progression for each section
• Ensure that each section is of similar lengths

Melody

• Base the notes of the melody on the notes of the
  accompanying chord
• Use a combination of steps and leaps
• Use a contrast of long and short notes
• Use techniques such as sequences, imitation and
  repetition

Harmony

• Dont always use the tonic in the bass
• Use suspensions and rich chords to add tension
• Use different inversions of chords
• Possibly divide sections by writing in two
  different keys and modulating between them
