but is caught and executed by the emperor Tiberius

  • Agrippa in exilio insulam remotam habitabat sed
Tiberius princeps credebat eum summum imperium
sib petere itaque centurionem ad eam insulam
    misit qui Agrippam interfecit.
  • Agrippa was living in exile in a remote island
but the emperor Tiberius believed that he was
seeking the highest power for himself therefore,
he sent a centurion to that island to kill
    Agrippa.
  • unus tamen e servis Agrippae, Clemens nomine,
simillimus erat domino mortuo et aetate et forma.
    hic servus consilium audacissimum cepit
  • However, one of Agrippas slaves, Clemens by
name, was very similar to his dead master in both
age and appearance. This slave conceived a very
    daring plan.

  • cineres Agrippae abstulit ut indicium mortis
deleret tum ad Italiam navigavit ubi paucos
menses se celabat dum barbam capillosque satis
    longos haberet ut Agrippa essevideretur.
  • He stole the ashes of Agrippa in order to destroy
any evidence of his death then he sailed to
Italy where he hid himself for a few months until
his beard and hair were long enough that he
    seemed to be Agrippa.
  • tandem rumorem emisit Agrippam auxilio deorum
servatum iam vivere. quo rumore in omnes partes
diffuso, Romam ipse profectus est ut populum
    contra Tiberium excitaret.
  • At last he sent out a rumour that Agrippa having
been saved by the help of the gods, was still
alive. When this rumour had spread to all parts,
he himself set off for Rome in order to incite
    the people against Tiberius.

4
  • his rumores permotus, Tiberius duos clientes
delegit et hortatus est ut Clementi, quasi amici
    essent, pecuniam auxiliumque offerent.
  • Alarmed by thes rumours, Tiberius chose two
clients and encouraged them to offer Clemens
money and help as if they were his friends.
  • illi clientes, benigne accepti, manum militum
arcessiverunt qui Clementem vinctum ad Palatium
traxerunt. ibi iussu Tiberii interfectus et
    sepultus est.
  • These clients, having been kindly received,
summoned a band of soldiers to put Clemens into
chains and drag him to the Palatine. There he was
executed by the order of Tiberius and buried.
