Galaxies

• The Milky Way is in a cluster called the Local
  Group.
• Local Group contains 45 galaxies of various size
  and types.
• And the three major types are spiral, elliptical,
  and irregular.
• Spiral Galaxies have spiral arms that wind
  outward from the center and the spiral arms
  consist of bright stars, dust, and gas.
• Elliptical Galaxies are shaped like large,
  three- dimensional ellipses and many are shaped
  like a football, but others are round.
• Two types of irregular galaxies are called the
  Clouds of Magellan orbit the Milky Way and the
  Large Magellanic Cloud.

The Milky Way Galaxy

• The Milky Way Galaxy contains at least one
  trillion stars.
• The Milk Way often is classified as a normal
  spiral galaxy.

Origin of the Universe

• Several models of the universe have been
  proposed.
• One model is the steady state theory.
• Second idea is called the oscillating model.
• A third model of how the universe formed is
  called the big bang theory.

Expansion of the Universe

• The Doppler Shift is when a sound or light wave
  comes closer it gets either louder or brighter
  and smashed and compacted and when it goes away
  and travels farther the noise becomes stretched
  and not as compacted.
• The Red Shift, but first of all the spectrum of
  the star the spectrum is the light levels and
  colors of the star it gives off. There are shifts
  in the colors from Bluish-Purple to
  Yellowish-Red. When it leans towards the blue it
  means its compressed and when its red it means
  its stretched and is also called the Red Shift.
• The Red Shift is states that planets and outer
  space objects are moving away from the Earth in
  the outer galaxies.

The Big Bang Theory

• The Big Bang Theory is a theory stating that
  approximately 13.7 billion years ago the universe
  was created from a gigantic star exploding and
  leaving dust and other elements and particles
  creating planets.
