Sports and Its Influence
  • Played one of the largest roles in the transition
    of Georgia Tech
  • Continued to Expand through the two decades
  • Main focus on Football, Baseball, Basketball, and
    Track

Football in the 20s and 30s
  • Coach Heismans last season was in 1919
  • Were very good in the first 5 to 6 years and drew
    large crowds
  • Beat Georgia in 1925 season 3-0, this was the
    first time they played since 1916
  • Went downhill from this point on

Baseball, Basketball and Track
  • Three major sports at Tech
  • One of the best in the Nation in the beginning of
    the 20s
  • In 1936 there wasnt a baseball team and in 1937
    there wasnt a baseball or basketball team

Minor Sports
  • Had a cheerleading squad made up of men
  • Had a Swim Team, Indoor Track, Tennis, Golf,
    Lacrosse, and Fencing
  • Also one year there was a Boxing Team

Military
  • In the early 20s there was a large regiment due
    to WWI
  • As years go on, campus participation dies down
    and military becomes more social
  • Start a Football and Basketball team, and have
    rifle team

Fraternity Life
  • Goes through drastic changes
  • Had around 21 fraternities during this time
    period
  • Could be in more than one fraternity in early
    20s
  • In 1923, Rushing Rules were created, and
    Fraternities become more important to the school

Clubs and Societies
  • Had a large number of clubs such as the Skull and
    Key, Cotillion Club and many others.
  • Societies went from AIEE and ASME to the YMCA and
    Honor Societies
  • Also had Honor Fraternities such as Omicron Delta
    Kappa

Editorials
  • There were special focus on these
  • There was the Blueprint, Technique, and the
    Yellow Jacket
  • Helped to spread information and liven up the
    campus

Church Groups
  • This would fall under clubs and societies
  • There were groups in every Blueprint during this
    time period
  • They were mainly the Churches around the school
    and the people that attended
  • Also were groups of school bible classes such as
    Tech Bible class and N. Avenue Presbyterian Church

Music
  • In the Early 20s there was the Glee Club,
    Mandolin Club, Four Harmony Hounds, and the Five
    Ramblin Wrecks
  • Expanded to more groups with more people
  • Had the Senior Hop Dance and the Junior Dance
