Structure

• Ethylene and carbon monoxide, along with a
  palladium (ii) catalyst will produce a
  polyketone.

Cons of Design Structure

• Palladium (ii) is rare, and has to be mined.
• In Canada, it is mined in Sudbury, Ontario.

Pros of Design Structure

• Ethylene and carbon monoxide are extremely cheap.
  The chemistry involved in the reaction is very
  simple.
• It is a crystalline structure, causing it to be
  very durable.

• Car Parts
• Appliances
• Electrical applications
• Gears
• Bearings
• Tubing

Strength

• Carbonyls allow polyketones to be very strong
  crystals.

Pros of Strength

• Because there is a strong attraction between the
  molecules, there is a high melting point.

Cons of Strength

• Because of the tight bonds between the molecules
  and crystalline structures, polyketones are very
  brittle.

Pros

• When a methyl group is added onto the ethyl, it
  causes the structure to not bond together so
  tightly.

Cons

• When the methyl group, or propylene, is added to
  the polyketone the melting point drops.

Environmental Impacts

• Products made from polyketones, such as car parts
  and other thermoplastics are recyclable.
