Title: Ocean Environment

zones.
The ocean is divided into two general
environments. Benthic environment is classified
into five zones. Pelagic environments is
classified into two major zones.
3 The benthic zones are. Internal zone, lies
between the low tide and high tide
lines. Sub littoral zones, continuously submerged
zone located and the continental shelves is
dominated by sea stars, brittle stars, and sea
lilies. Bathyal zone begins at the continental
slope and extends to depth of 4,000
meters. Abyssal zone which has no light begins
where the bathyal zone ends and extends to depth
of 6,000 meter. Hadal zone is confined to the
ocean trenches, which are deeper than 6,000
meters.

5The pelagic zones are Neritic zone- is
located above the continental shelves. Ocean
zone- extends into deep and open ocean waters
beyond the continental shelves.
6Ocean Food Of all the resources that the ocean is
capable of supplying the one in greatest demand
is proteinrich food. At present a large part of
the population of the world has a starchy diet.
Such a diet can maintain life, but the lack of
protein to build strong tissue s decreases the
ability of a person body to fight disease
perhaps half a billion people in the world
suffer some form of diseases causes by source
of high-protein food Is fish from the ocean How
ever many ocean areas are already over fished and
in decline.
7- Pollution
- But the growth of the population and the
increased use of more toxic substances have
change the situation. The ability of the ocean
to absorb wastes and renew itself cannot
match the in creasing amount of water of waste
that is being produced worldwide - Productive coastal waters are in the greatest
danger. pollution has destroyed clam and
oysters beds in some local areas.
8Desalination is the extraction of fresh water
from salter. One method of desalination now used
is distillanation which involves heating ocean
water to remove the salt. Heats causes the liquid
water to evaporate leaving dissolved salts
behind. When the water vapor condenses the result
is pure fresh water.
9Aquaculture the farming of the ocean will be come
an important source of food production.
Aquaculture involves developing and raising
special breeds of marine animals and plants that
yield large amounts of food. A major problem for
aquaculturalist is that the ocean forms would be
susceptible to pollution and may them selves be
local source of pollution.
