  • An adjective is a word that describes or modifies
    a person, place or thing in a sentence

Different types of adjectives
  • Determiner tells which one
  • a, an (indefinite articles) the (definite
    article)
  • Example an experience, the house on the corner
    of the street, a summer job

Proper adjective
  • Is formed from a proper noun and begins with a
    capital
  • Examples Canadian athlete, Olympic experience,
    Shakespearean theatre

Compound adjective
  • Combines two or more words to form an adjective,
    usually with a hyphen
  • Examples three-day-long journey, well-worn
    shoes, ice-laden trees

Comparative Adjectives
  • Compare two items adding er to the regular
    adjective
  • Examples faster skater, easier quiz
  • Superlative Adjectives compare more than two
    items, and usually add est
  • Examples fastest skater, easiest quiz

  • Shakespeare was a master at using adjectives,
    particularly when it came to insults!
  • Imagine calling someone baggage wouldnt it
    sound more threatening to call them sour-faced
    baggage?
  • Or, how about calling someone a clodpole (which
    means idiot) try adding boil-brained
