The Casablanca Conference
From January 14 to January 24, 1943, the first
war conference between the Allied Powers.
Planned the allied strategy and the end of the
war. With his country besieged by both Hitler
and the harsh winter, Stalin didn't feel that he
could leave. It set basis and direction for
the rest of the war. And most importantly, it
established terms of unconditional surrender.
Hitler might have negotiated a peace settlement
and could have continued to be in power and cause
additional disasters.

Cordell Hull, and Molotov resulted in plans for
post war cooperation and an international
organization Beginning plans for UN.

Cairo Conference 1943 Franklin Roosevelt,
Winston Churchill, Chiang Kai-shek
Agreed upon future military operations against
Japan. Fighting to restrain and punish the
aggression of Japan. They covet no gain for
themselves. Japan shall be stripped of all the
islands in the Pacific which she has seized or
occupied since the beginning of the first World
War in 1914. Unconditional surrender of
Japan. Upon defeat of Germany will join war
against Japan.

  • The first of two conferences, the Tehran
    Conference, took place in Tehran, Iran.
  • Roosevelt, who was weak and ailing at the
    time, wished to strengthen the cooperation
    between the United States, Great Britain, and the
    USSR.
  • Roosevelt was willing to make numerous
    concessions to Stalin..
  • 1. Operation Overlord would be launched during
    May 1944 opening second front.
  • 2. It was agreed that the military staff of the
    Three Powers should from then on keep in close
    touch with each other.
  • At the insistence of Stalin, the borders of
    post-war Poland were determined along the Oder
    and Neisse rivers.
  • 4. A United Nations Organization was tentatively
    agreed to.
  • 5. The Soviet Union agreed to wage war against
    Japan once Germany was defeated.

  1. Germanys defeat will bring Soviets into war
    against Japan.
  2. U.N. Charter meeting is planned for San
    Francisco.
  3. Russia will regain territory lost in
    Russo-Japanese War of 1905.
  4. Outer Mongolia will be separated from China and
    recognized as an independent Nation.
  5. Germany will be split into 4 occupation zones as
    will Berlin with elections planned for 1948 to
    deal with possible reunification.

By April we are at the door of Berlin and Russia
too. April 12, 1945 FDR dies. Germany complete
disaster as target became anything and

Republic of Germany in May 1949, and the Soviet
became the German Democratic Republic or East
Germany.
The Berlin Wall the intent was to restrict
access between West Berlin and East Germany. It
was built in 1961 and lasted until 1989.
