2First things first
- In order to HEAR the Holy Spirit in and
through the Word of God, we first need to
recognize WHERE He is mentioned. In this
workshop, we will not only explore WHAT the
Holy Spirit has done but also discover His very
nature (WHO He is) and the vital role He wants
to play in the life of every Believer (HOW He
works). We will look at the WHERE, WHAT,
WHO and HOW during the next hour.
- WHERE is the Holy Spirit mentioned in Scripture?
- What have we been told that He has done and will
do? - Who is the Holy Spirit--what is His nature?
- How will He affect YOUR lifewhat is His role?

learn quite a bit by going back to the original
Hebrew.

6The Holy Spirit In Scripture (the where)
- John 37-9
- Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be
born again. The wind blows where it wishes, and
you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where
it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone
who is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered
and said to Him, How can these things be?
- We see that the Holy Spirit was mentioned in the
first verse of the Torah (Hebrew Scriptures, Old
Testament) - We see that Jesus Mentions being born of the
Spirit (comparing Him to wind as the Hebrew
word described in Genesis 12) when He first
describes how a man (mankind) must be born
again
7The Holy Spirit In Scripture (the where)
- Some Mentionings of the Holy Spirit in the Old
Testament - King David mentions the Holy Spirit in Psalm
5111 Cast me not away from thy presence and
take not thy holy spirit from me. - Exodus 312-4 See, I have called by name Bezalel
the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of
Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of
God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge,
and in all manner of workmanship, to design
artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in
bronze,
- Lets start looking at the WHAT (What the Holy
Spirit has done and will do) as we examine these.
- What did King David know that the Holy Spirit
would do for him? - What did the Holy Spirit do for Bezalel? (He
taught him.)

- 25 Then the LORD came down in the cloud, and
spoke to him, and took of the Spirit
that was upon him, and placed the same upon the
seventy elders and it happened, when the Spirit
rested upon them, that they prophesied, although
they never did so again.26 But two men had
remained in the camp the name of one was Eldad,
and the name of the other Medad. And the Spirit
rested upon them. Now they were among those
listed, but who had not gone out to the

camp.
11Numbers 1125-31
- 28 So Joshua the son of Nun, Moses
assistant, one of his choice men, answered and
said, Moses my lord, forbid them! 29 Then Moses
said to him, Are you zealous for my sake? Oh,
that all the LORDs people were prophets and that
the LORD would put His Spirit upon them! 30 And
Moses returned to the camp, he and the elders of
Israel. 31 Now a wind went out from the LORD, and
it brought quail from the sea and
left them fluttering near the camp, about a days
journey on this side and about a days journey on
the other side, all around the camp, and about
two cubits above the surface of the ground.
12Where numbers 1125-31
- The Spirit rested upon the elders
- The Spirit caused them to prophesy
- Caused a physical manifestation (the wind)
- We see that the Holy Spirit is real and present
- We see an early indication from the wisdom of
Moses that the Holy Spirit is for everyone!
Oh, that all the LORDs people were
prophets and that the LORD would put His Spirit
upon them!
132 Samuel 231-3
- 1 Now these are the last words of
David. Thus says David the son of
Jesse Thus says the man raised up on
high, The anointed of the God of
Jacob, And the sweet psalmist of Israel - 2 The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, And
His word was on my tongue. - 3 The God of Israel said, The Rock of

God.

and guided him

roots. 2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon
Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The
Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of
knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. 3 His
delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall
not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by
the hearing of His ears
17Where Joel 228-29
- The Spirit will be poured out
- Sons and daughters shall prophesy
- Dreams and visions given
And it shall come to pass afterward That I
will pour out My Spirit on all flesh Your sons
and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men
shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see
visions. And also on My menservants and
on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in
those days.
18The holy spirit in the ministry of Jesus
- Matthew 315-17
- 15 But Jesus answered and said to him,
Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting
for us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he
allowed Him. 16 When He had been baptized, Jesus
came up immediately from the water and behold,
the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove and
alighting upon Him. 17And suddenly a
voice came from heaven, saying, This is My
beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The baptism of Jesus is commonly accepted as the
official beginning of Jesus ministry here on
earth. Immediately after we see that the Holy
Spirit descends upon Jesus. Note that at no time
does scripture mention that Spirit departing from
Jesus. Father God also states that He is giving
this gift to his son. Are you his son/daughter?
19The holy spirit in the ministry of Jesus
- Matthew 41
- 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the
wilderness to be tempted by the devil. - Luke 41
- 1 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit,
returned from the Jordan and was led by the
Spirit into the wilderness,
- Once again, we are reminded that Jesus was
filled with the Holy Spirit and was led - Are you led by the Spirit?
- Note Because Jesus was filled with the Spirit
He was able to rightly divide the Word of truth
when tempted!
20The holy spirit in the ministry of Jesus
- Matthew 1228
- 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God,
surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.
- Jesus casted out demons by the Spirit of God!
- Is Jesus our example?
- Can you then be filled with the Holy Spirit, be
led of the Holy Spirit (hear), resist temptation
because of the Holy Spirit and cast out demons by
the Holy Spirit?
21The holy spirit in the ministry of Jesus
- Luke 414-19
- 14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the
Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out
through all the surrounding region. 15 And He
taught in their synagogues, being glorified by
all. 16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been
brought up. And as His custom was, He went into
the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to
read. 17 And He was handed the book of the
prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book,
He found the place where it was written
22The holy spirit in the ministry of Jesus
- Luke 414-19 (continued)
- 18 The Spirit of the LORD is upon
Me, Because He has anointed Me To
preach the gospel to the poor He has sent
Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim
liberty to the captives And recovery of
sight to the blind, To set at liberty those
who are oppressed 19 To proclaim the
acceptable year of the LORD.
- You can find where Jesus was reading in Isaiah 61
- Jesus proclaimed that it was the Holy Spirit that
anointed and empowered Him to perform His ministry
23Jesus promises the holy spirit
-
- John 1426
- But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom
the Father will send in my name, he shall teach
you all things, and bring all things to your
remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
- Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Comforter
- Jesus says that He will teach us all things and
even remind us of what Jesus has said!
24Jesus promises the Holy Spirit
- Acts 14-9
- 4 And being assembled together with them, He
commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but
to wait for the Promise of the Father, which, He
said, you have heard from Me 5 for John truly
baptized with water, but you shall be baptized
with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.
- The Holy Spirit is promised to all followers of
Jesus! - The arrival in each believers life is an event
as Jesus promises that we shall be baptized with
the Holy Spirit
25Jesus promises the holy Spirit
- Acts 14-9 (continued)
- 6Therefore, when they had come together, they
asked Him, saying, Lord, will You at this time
restore the kingdom to Israel? 7 And He said to
them, It is not for you to know times or seasons
which the Father has put in His own
authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the
Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be
witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. 9 Now
when He had spoken these things, while they
watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received
Him out of their sight.
Jesus indicates that it is the Holy Spirit that
will give us POWER!
26The Holy Spirit is given to believers
- Acts 21-4
- 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they
were all with one accord in one place. 2 And
suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a
rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole
house where they were sitting. 3 Then there
appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire,
and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were
all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them
utterance.
- God is no respecter of persons. He gave the Holy
Spirit to the early church and He wants you to
have Him in your life today! - The scripture teaches us that we have become sons
and daughters (1 John) of God, and just as Jesus
was filled with the Holy Ghost, so shall we
besince we are now sons and daughters!
27How will/does the holy spirit affect your life?
Where is the life application?
- The Holy Spirit fills the believer as Jesus was
filled - The Holy Spirit speaks to you through the Word of
God, because He teaches you how to apply the Word
to your life in every area! - The Holy Spirit will lead you just as He led
Jesus! - The Holy Spirit will bring you comfort!
- The Holy Spirit will not allow you to be led
astray by false and/or evil spirits. - The Holy Spirit will give you discernment!
- The Holy Spirit will give you the gift of
tongues! - The Holy Spirit will give you Power!
- The Holy Spirit will give you authority!
- The Holy Spirit will confirm all things through
the Word of God!
28What is the evidence of the holy spirit in your
life?
- LOVE
- JOY
- PEACE
- LONG-SUFFERING
- KINDNESS
- GOODNESS
- FAITHFULNESS
- GENTLENESS
- SELF-CONTROL
Galatians 522-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness,
