Factors Affecting Population Changes
  • 1. Birth Rates
  • The number of live births per 1000 people, per
    year.

9
Factors Affecting Population Changes

  • The number of women who are capable of having
    children
  • Culture and Religion
  • Healthcare, medical conditions, and education
  • Economic status

  • Environmental disasters
  • Fertility Rates

12
Factors Affecting Population Changes
  • 3. Immigration
  • The movement of people to a country. This can be
    significant because more developed countries
accept more people, and therefore their
    population increases quickly.

13

  • Friends and Family
  • Work

14

15
Factors Affecting Population Changes
  • Push Factors
  • Lack of jobs
  • Poor education systems
  • Lack of democracy
  • War
  • Natural disasters

16
Population Density
  • Population Density - The average number of people
living in a specific area. It is expressed by the
number of people per square kilometer.

17
Population Density
  • Arithmetic Population Density
  • This gives  you the technically correct density,
but it gives people the wrong impression because
it is the total number of people divided by the
    total land area

18
Population Density
  • Physiological Population Density
  • This gives you a more accurate idea of the
population density. It is the total number of
people divided by the total area of cultivated
    land.
  •

19
Overpopulation
  • An area is considered over populated when the
needs of the people cannot be fulfilled by the
land they are living on. The carrying capacity of
the land is exceeded when it is overpopulated.
