APPRENTICESHIPS

• July 2006 established a Skills Centre in
  partnership with TAFESA
• Pre Voc not a requirement
• Intake 50 apprentices per year
• Employed full time as OneSteel employees from day
  one but for the first 12 months working full time
  at the Training Skills Centre at TAFE under
  OneSteel Supervision
• Not a OneSteel Centre but an industry centre

• TAFESA had to be different
• OneSteel HS rules
• 8am until 5pm
• Trades skills to OneSteels requirements
  adapted the apprenticeship to meet our needs
• Rigour and discipline
• Operate like a business, not a Government agency
• Staff had to wear appropriate safety personal
  protective equipment
• Staff had to lead by example.
