• A list of all sources used to write a paper
• Alphabetized by the first word of the entry
• ? First word is usually an authors last name
• ? If no author, it is usually an article title
  in quotation marks

• Must place at the end of any sentence containing
  borrowed information (from the copied/printed
  sources)
• Must be done for quotations AND paraphrasing

• Never put a period in front of the ( )
• Never put a comma or pg. inside the ( )
• Quotations marks that come at the end of a
  sentence go in front of the parentheses

Quoting

• If you use a sources words even a few you
  must use and document or it is PLAGIARISM!
• Embed quotations within your own sentences
  instead of plopping long quotations
• Use ellipses to indicate that you have removed
  some of the words in a quotation
• Use brackets to indicate that you have
  changed a word within a quotation to fit your
  sentence more smoothly

Paraphrasing

• If you use a sources ideas but put them in your
  own wording, it is paraphrasing
• Most of your paper should be paraphrased
• These still need documentation or it is
  PLAGIARISM!
• Rearranging words or using a few of a sources
  words is NOT paraphrasing Paraphrase or use
  or it is PLAGIARISM!

Valid Sources

• Print sources books, legitimate respectable
  magazines/newspapers, etc.
• Sources gained from a school or library database
  (like Gale or EBSCO)
• Online, respected newspapers/magazines
• (like Chron.com, walstreetjournal.com)
• Governmental websites (.gov)
• No Wikipedia, no .com or .org Some may be
  reliable, but it is difficult to know for sure
