Title: List the characters who died in the play Romeo and Juliet and next to their names explain how they died.

1
List the characters who died in the play Romeo
and Juliet and next to their names explain how
they died.
  • Entry Task- Final Review

2
Parallel Structure
  • Not parallel
  • Parallel
  • The production manager was asked to write his
report quickly, accurately, and in a detailed
    manner.
  • The teacher said that he was a poor student
because he waited until the last minute to study
for the exam, completed his lab problems in a
careless manner, and his motivation was low.
  • The production manager was asked to write his
    report quickly, accurately, and thoroughly.
  • The teacher said that he was a poor student
because he waited until the last minute to study
for the exam, completed his lab problems in a
    careless manner, and lacked motivation.

3
Commas- just a refresher.
  • A comma goes between two sentences connected with
a conjunction and, but, or, either, because.
  • A comma goes between each piece of a list longer
than 2. Red, white, and blue.
  • A comma goes after an introductory clause Like
all 11 year olds, my son likes to play outside.
  • A comma goes before a quotation He said, I want
    it to snow!
  • A comma separates a word/clause/sentence segment
that is inserted for detail but not part of main
sentence (an interrupter) The game, the final
one of the season, began at 2 oclock.

4
Apostrophe- youd be surprised how many errors I
find in your papers.
  • The apostrophe is used in two situations to show
a possession and to combine two words-
    contractions- cant, dont, wouldnt.
  • Possession That is Brians book. You do not use
an apostrophe for possessive pronouns. That is
her book. That book is hers. The other exception
is the word it. If it owns the object you do not
use an apostrophe. Its purpose was to inform not
    to entertain.

5
Semicolons
  • A semi colon can be complicated, but if you
remember one BIG rule, you should be able to
correctly use them. A semi-colon can be replaced
    by a period.
  • A semi-colon connects two complete sentences in
order to make the connection between them
stronger. A semi-colon is not followed by a
    conjunction.
  • Romeo and Juliet were in love however, the story
itself was not a love story.
  • It was raining cats and dogs outside I stayed
    inside.

6
Colon
  • A colon is used to highlight a piece of text its
job is to bring attention to the next piece of
    information.
  • There is usually a complete sentence leading to a
    colon.
  • I have three favorite vacation spots in the
United States Florida, Virginia, and Vermont.

7
Dash
  • Think of a dash as a stronger comma to set off an
    interrupter- it adds emphasis.
  • They shout - from public platforms in printed
pages, through the microphones -that it is futile
to oppose the wave of the future.
