2DEFINATION
AS/400(APPLICATION SOFTWARE) The AS/400 -
formally renamed the "IBM iSeries," but still
commonly known as AS/400 - is a midrange server
designed for small businesses and departments in
large enterprises. Its operating system is
called the OS/400.
3WHAT IS OS/400 ?
The os/400 reside above the machine
interface(MI).this allows operating system to be
independent from the hardware. LIC(Licensed

Main three features of AS/400 Database
management The AS/400 has a relational database
manager built in as an integral part of both the
operating system and machine itself. Communicatio
n It communicates with other computers using
protocols such as Ethernet, SNA, OSI, ISDN,
TCP/IP, and others. It can support connections to
three different LAN at once. Security We can
define data security in terms of objects, user,
workstations, files, records, and fields.
