LITERACY

• Students will apply comprehension strategies to
  fiction and nonfiction text to improve student
  achievement across all content areas.
• TEXTBOOK
• The Readers Journey is the main textbook.

WHAT ALL DOES LITERACY INCORPORATE?

• The main focus is on reading, writing, speaking,
  and listening skills
• We will teach AVID strategies for students to
  incorporate in all subjects as a study tool.
• We will also look at notebooks and ensure that
  students are maintaining a notebook that will
  help them be successful in school.

WHAT ALL DOES LITERACY INCORPORATE?

• Each Monday your child will need to have a book
  with him/her for Silent Sustained Reading.
• After reading your child will be given a prompt
  to write about in their journal.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS

• There are six units in our text and each unit has
  four books that go along with the unit. Books
  are leveled so students can be successful with
  assignments at their reading level.
• Other Literacy Resources will also be used.

Assignments

• If you child is going to be out they need to
  check with the teacher for work they will miss.
• When a student is absent it is their
  responsibility to check to see what work they
  missed.
