Attendance Awareness
  • The AAP Attendance Awareness Program is in
effect as of September 5, 2011
  • It will benefit those who need assistance and
    coaching on how to improve
  • Our goal is to reduce disruption to department
    staff, improve productivity and morale
  • Many of you stated in the annual staff
satisfaction survey last year you wanted a fair
process to manage staff attendance working
    short is deflating.

7
Types of Absences
  • Satisfactory Attendance recognition of those
who are committed and within established
    standards
  • Unusual Absence to accommodate employees who
normally have good attendance but exceed
standards due to a temporary condition such as
    surgery, pneumonia etc
  • Excessive Absence plans are developed between
the manager/supervisor and employee to make
    improvements
  • Culpable Absence/Discipline Process polices and
processes in place to deal with absences which
are within an employees control to correct

8
What Are The Specifics Of The Process?
  • There are specifics related to how you should
book off for an illness, any non-medical reason
or if you are on an improvement plan

  • Wow theres been a lot of positive change since
the last Employee Handbook was published.
  • This package is given to new employees, but since
there's substantial change and detail, we have
    produced copies for everyone
  • The handbook was delivered to your communication
folder it is also available on our Intranet and
    Internet website.
  • Two Things You Must Do
  • Sign Offs Code of Conduct Agreement,
    Confidentiality Agreement, Workplace Violence
Prevention Commitment this is a legislated
    requirement.
  • Quizes At the end of the Hand book are quizzes
that let us know that you understand critical
    information
  • Turn them into Heather Ryner at her office, 4202
or dropped off for her mail slot at reception.

Evacuation Fire Extinguisher Training
  • In early August we conducted a mock evacuation
exercise with volunteers who were substituting
    for resident of W5
  • We were pleased with the successes of the drill,
we actually were done faster than expected, good
ideas and action plans were developed on the fly
as the case or situation was changing throughout
    the morning
  • With little to no rehearsal it was impressive to
see how well staff conducted the evacuation and
    worked together as a team
  • Lots of feedback was given and a full analysis of
the evacuation was conducted afterwards to enable
us to make improvements for the future
  • We gained tremendous insight into how this would
actually roll out in a live exercise and it
improved our confidence in knowing we are capable
    of handling emergencies
  • Aug 29, we had 75 staff try their hand at
deploying a fire extinguisher practice makes
perfect. Expect more session in the fall.

Fall Projects
  • Painting Fairhaven requires painting refreshment
particularly in the main entrance, public areas,
    dining rooms and walkways.
  • Resident Room washroom door hardware washroom
doors are supported by rollers above. Most of the
rollers are failing and the doors are difficult
    to close.
  • Dining Room Tables Chairs last year, half the
home area dining rooms were outfitted with new
tables and chairs. An order has been placed with
the preferred vendor to outfit the other half.
  • Communication Equipment Upgrade Telephone system
is antiquated spectralink phones have dead spots
and our wireless system wont support clinical
applications all three components are being
    upgraded this fall
  • Parking Lot Drainage Surface water run-off on
our front parking at our entrance off Dutton is
treacherous in the fall and spring when the water
freezes. Underground drainage to be installed in
Fall to channel the water to the storm water
    system underground.
  • Card Swipe Replacement of the employee entrance
    card swipe.
