• Minerals and hydroelectric power are the muscle
  of industry in Africa. Africa has great amounts
  of both
• 40 of the worlds water power, but less
  developed because it is far from the cities.
• Half the worlds gold is mined here - mainly in
  South Africa.
• Diamonds for jewelry and industry are mined here.
• Large deposits of uranium found in DRC and South
  Africa.
• Copper is mined here more than any other place in
  the world except in the USA.
• Cobalt, tin, and bauxite are also found in Africa.

Other Information

• 1/3 of the region is forest.
• Some trees produce waxes and medicines.
• Rainforest has mahogany and ebony.
• Also, by-products of wood are used to make
  plastic and industrial alcohol.
• Fuels to supply power are scarcethere is little
  coal and little oil, and the high prices of oil
  has created a lot of debt for the region.
• Slow development because there has been a lack of
  capital
• to build roads, railways,and factories.
• The climate is also hot and humid and slows
  growth.
