Title: Week 7 IT 24

1
  • Week 7 IT 24
  • Morphemes which add a number meaning
  • This teacher led activity aims to introduce
children to prefixes which carry a meaning
    related to number.
  • At the start of the presentation, pictures of
cycles appear with different numbers of wheels,
and these are linked with the prefixes uni bi
    and tri.
  • Teachers will need to give an explanation to go
alongside this, to explain that some beginnings
of words give a clue about number e.g. triangle
    means 3 sided.
  • The answer sheet (see next slide) needs to be
printed off and given to the children prior to
    the lesson.
  • Further number morpheme words are given, and
children are asked to write how many is meant
by the prefix each time. This is prompted by the
    appearance of a pencil.
  • Children are asked what gave them the clue for
this number and feedback is then given on screen
of the prefix and its number meaning, and a
picture of the word appears e.g. unicorn,
    tripod.
