• - in expressions like three times a week.

• When we talk about something we have already
  mentioned
• When there is only one of something
• With places in a town, eg, cinema and theatre
• With superlatives.

• when you are speaking in general
• With some nouns after at/to/from
• Shes not at home today.
• Before meals, days, and months.
• Before next/last days, week, etc.
