Defining PEA-Participatory Extension Approaches

• A learning approach for the strengthening of the
  individual and organisational capacities of
  rural people and their livelihoods to be able to
  deal with the dynamic challenges and changes in
  development in a self-reliant way

• It facilitates a process of self-organisation and
  emancipation of rural communities to enable
  people to better articulate their needs for
  agricultural and social services and represent
  themselves vis-à-vis service providers and
  authorities

Development (LOD)

• It is the vehicle through which the process of
  community emancipation can take place

• It is the restructuring and democratisation of
  community organisations for services and wealth
  re-distribution

• It is the facilitation of the consultative
  process between community groups (opinion makers)
  and their elected representatives (opinion
  leaders)

• It is based on the belief of transfer of the
  self-organisation principles from complex
  adaptive systems to human systems
