Title: Percents: both large and small
1Percents both large and small
2Remember
- Percent means out of one hundred.
- You are comparing two numbers as if one is a
part of an other, original - If this part is really small, the percent may
be less than 1 (ex 0.01) - If this part is larger than the original, the
percent will be greater than 100 (ex 150)
3Percents greater than 100
Suppose this space is your original. This is
what you start with.
100 of it would be the same thing over again.
150 would be the original 100 PLUS another 50
or half of the original.
4Percents less than 1
Suppose this space is your original. This is
what you start with.
100 would be the same thing over again.
10 of the original would be 1/10 or one tenth of
the original.
1 of the original would be 1/100 or one-one
hundredth of the original. (or 10 of the 10)
Any percents less than one would be a part of ONE
of this tiny slivers.
For example 0.5, 0.25, and 0.75 are VERY small
percents.
