Reminders for the week
  • Homework is due Friday
  • Do Now is due Friday
  • Quiz is Friday

3
More practice with reading chemical formulas
  • Work on the top of your GUIDED NOTES on your own
  • We will review as a class

Some common chemical formulas that represent
different compounds!
4
Guided notes
  • You know the drill.
  • Listen closely, fill in your notes with the
    bolded, underlined words.
  • Eyes on me and the board, mouths closed.

5
Mixtures
  • A mixture is matter made up of two or more
    substances that are combined physically
  • Each substance retains its own chemical identity
    and properties
  • Can be separated by physical means

6
Types of mixtures
  • 1. Homogenous
  • -A mixture that is the same throughout, uniform
  • -These are also called solutions
  • -You cannot tell what the individual pieces of
    the mixture are
  • -Example Milk, air

7
Types of Mixtures
  • 2. Heterogeneous
  • -A mixture that is not the same throughout, not
    uniform
  • -You can pick out the individual pieces that make
    up the mixture
  • -Example Salad, sand and water

8
stations
  • Youre scientists, observing real-life mixtures.
  • Record at each station whether the mixture is
heterogeneous or homogenous and explain why you
think so. Also answer the key question at each
    station
  • Take 3 minutes at each station to observe the
mixtures and discuss with your group
  • Expectations
  • Working just with your group. Whisper.
  • Do not touch the mixtures.
  • Rotate only when I tell you to.

9
PICTURE SORT
10
