Emergency Alarm
  • Kooyong and many buildings
  • Alert (prepare to evacuate) Beep Beep
    like a truck reversing
  • Evacuate tone Woop Woop
  • Enfield a ringing bell
  • Find out what the alarm sounds like in your
    building

Raising the Alarm
  • Call 000
  • Enfield call 3444
  • Break glass alarm (red boxes on the wall)
  • Call reception
  • Call the Chief Warden

Emergency Warden
  • Is in charge during the emergency
  • Will be wearing hat
  • All persons must obey the instructions of the
    warden
  • Wardens may request your assistance

Dont Panic
  • Keeping calm, obeying the emergency warden and
    following our emergency procedures is the best
    way to get through the emergency safely

Fire
  • In case of fire
  • Rescue people from danger (if safe)
  • Raise the alarm (alert your colleagues / call
    000)
  • Close the doors
  • Evacuate use nearest route

Fight the Fire????
  • If its a small fire AND youve been trained how
    to use the extinguishers, you can try to put the
    fire out BUT DONT TAKE ANY RISKS
  • Otherwise close the doors and evacuate
  • (Closing the doors will starve the fire of fresh
    air (slowing the fire down) and trap the smoke)

  • Storage of flammable / combustible materials
  • Training and awareness
  • Fire escapes kept clear at ALL times
  • Controlling smoking

Bomb Threat
  • If by phone keep the caller talking (DO NOT HANG
    UP THE PHONE)
  • Notify Emergency Warden or nearest staff member
  • Record details of threat using the Bomb Threat
    Checklist
  • Await further instructions by emergency warden
  • Do not leave unless authorised by the police or
    the Chief Warden as you may need to be
    interviewed
  • Do not close doors, open any that are closed

  • Notify your Emergency Warden or Manager
  • Await further instructions

    the area

  • What is your name?
  • Where are you?
  • What is your address?

Evacuation
  • Report to the internal assembly area (if in
    place)
  • DO NOT USE THE LIFT
  • Follow the directions of the Emergency Warden
  • Assist colleagues if needed
  • Ambulant people evacuate first, semi ambulant
    second
  • Meet and stay at the external assembly point
  • Report any missing persons to the Chief Warden
  • Do not return until the official All Clear is
    given
  • Dont take belongings unless instructed to

Evacuation
  • All staff should familiarise themselves with the
    locations of their internal and external assembly
    areas

Security / Intruder
  • Obey the offenders instructions
  • Raise the alarm
  • Evacuate the immediate area
  • Keep additional people from entering the area
  • Take note of the person ie speech, clothing,
    height, weight, age, hair, accent
  • Use Description of the Offender Checklist

Security / Intruder
  • Put distance between yourself and the aggressor
  • Put yourself between exit and the aggressor
  • Remove yourself from the situation as soon as
    safely possible
  • Talk in a non threatening manner
  • Do only what is directed, nothing more
  • Raise the alarm
  • Good communication, acting politely and
    professionally and not over reacting has been
    shown to be the best course of action

Medical Emergency
  • Check for danger
  • Raise the alarm, call reception or 000
  • Obtain first aid assistance
  • Direct ambulance officers to the scene

  • Examples of internal emergencies
  • flood illegal occupancy
  • electricity person trapped in lift
  • gas leak hazardous substances spill
  • damage to internal structures

  • Remove people from danger
  • Raise the alarm
  • Reduce the impact
  • Stop more people coming involved
  • Communicate get help to rectify
  • Get department back to normal

  • Notify Chief Warden
  • If required prepare to evacuate
  • Follow Chief Wardens instructions

Incident Report
  • An incident report should be filled in for all
    incidents and emergencies
  • This will help us to assess what happened and
    make recommendations to reduce the likelihood of
    reoccurrence
