A little bit about me. . . .
  • I have taught kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade.
  • This is my 7th year teaching in District 95.
  • I have 3 children.
  • I look forward to watching your kids become
    excellent readers.

  • 1.  Don't hurt anyone on the inside or the
    outside.
  • 2.  Don't bother others when they are working.
  • 3.  Listen.
  • 4.  Raise your hand. 
  • 5.  Do your BEST all the time.

Behavior Program
  • Above the Line, Below the Line
  • promotes a safe and caring environment where all
    students are taught the difference between
    appropriate and inappropriate behavior
  • three groups, Above the Line, Below the Line, and
    fix it lane
  • If a student makes a bad behavior choice and
    falls Below the Line, the student will be
    expected to assume responsibility for the
    behavior and fix it
  • students have the opportunity to move to fix it
    if they have shown improvement in their behavior
  • a fix it note may be sent home to make the
    parent aware of any issues and how the student
    fixed it

First Grade Expectations
  • Follows written and oral directions
  • Prints name legibly on paper
  • Writes using complete sentences
  • Applies grade level spelling skills and corrects
    errors independently
  • Uses appropriate capitalization and punctuation
  • Presents final work in good condition including
    the use of best handwriting and appropriate
    spacing

Curriculum
  • Whole group instruction using our basal series by
    Houghton-Mifflin
  • Small group instruction using guided reading
    books- groups made across the grade level
  • Students are assessed and read books at their
    level
  • Groups are flexible
  • Leveling is based on Fountas and Pinnell and the
    range for first grade is Level D- Level I

  • Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence
    Fluency, Conventions
  • Handwriting with good form and size are very
    important!! Please encourage your child to use
    their best handwriting at home!

Check your childs folder EVERYDAY!
  • Spelling packet
  • Given on Monday, returned by Friday
  • Regular homework
  • Math homework in take home folder
  • Review of what weve done (should take about 15
    mins.) Your role is guide.
  • Book projects

  • Reading log
  • At least 300 minutes a month
  • 15 mins. a day, 5 days a week
  • Return record book at the end of each month
  • Great America Read to Succeed in the spring
  • Pizza Hut coupons if the monthly goal is met
  • Certificate of achievement

Book Orders
  • Inexpensive books
  • The class earns points to buy books for the
    classroom
  • Sent home once a month

  • Menu is sent home (or you can look online)
  • Lunch costs 2.25
  • Lunch comes with milk
  • Money can be sent in a labeled envelope or added
    online
  • Milk costs 0.40
  • Occasionally notes will be sent home if your
    child has a negative balance on their account.

  • Your child can bring in
  • a healthy snack (following the healthy
    guidelines)
  • a party favor
  • a birthday book for the class library
  • Please remember to send in enough for everyone-we
    have 20 students. Dont forget napkins and
    spoons if needed!

  • Each student will have the opportunity to be the
    star of the week.
  • Theres a poster to fill out with special
    information about themselves.
  • They can bring in a few pictures to share
  • If they bring in their favorite book, I will read
    it out loud.
  • Students have a chance to bring Cuddles home
    throughout the year.

  • If your child is being picked up he/she MUST
    have a note or will be sent home on the bus. I
    check messages at lunch, but I do not always have
    a chance to check email and phone messages in the
    afternoon
