Vorhofflimmern

• selten bei Personen lt 50 Jahre
• betrifft 10 aller Personen gt 80 Jahre
• mittleres Alter 72 Jahre
• jeder 4. gt 40 Jahre
• erhöht das Insultrisiko auf das 5-fache
• Ursache für 15 aller Insulte
• Morbidität und Mortalität höher als bei
  Schlaganfällen anderer Genese

• Nicht-valvuläres VHFL und
• Z. n. Schlaganfall, TIA oder systemischer Embolie

• Symptomatische Herzinsuffizienz (NYHA II) oder
• Alter gt 75 Jahre oder
• Alter gt 65 Jahre DM, KHK oder art. Hypertonie
