3Robert Dinwiddie, the British Governor of
Virginia, wrote to the French military leader in
Ohio
Sir, the country located on the Ohio River is so
obviously the property of the British king that I
am both surprised and hurt on hearing that a band
of French troops is building forts on this
river. (p. 91 S. Studies book)
Whatever your instructions may be, I also have
mine, which are to remain here by orders of my
general.
4The French kicked the British out of
Pickawillany, built forts to keep the British
from moving west, and took over a British trading
post.
