chatting with strangers is a positive way to
    manage technology.
  • Oil is a natural resource that cannot be replaced
    within the environment.
  • Imagination is a human resource that can be used
to entertain young children while babysitting
    them.

5
Available Resources
  • Talking a class, listening to friends, and
listening to radio programs could all be
classified as human resources to use to achieve a
    goal.
  • Material resources are personal possessions like
    money, books, and clothes.
  • To reduce the amount of trash (garbage) in the
environment, one can recycle, reduce, and reuse
    products.

  • Writing a paper for school, would be an
advantage, of using a home computer.
  • Money would be a nonhuman resource.

Unit ConsumerTeen Living
  • Obj. 9.02 Managing resources

8
Managing resources
  • A. Wants (something that you would like to have)
and Needs (something that you must have to live).
  • B. Goals a conscious aim that requires
    planning and effort to achieve.
  • 1. Short term something you want to accomplish
    soon.
  • 2. Long term something you can plan to
accomplish sometime farther in the future,
    perhaps 6 months.
  • 3. Fixed one that can be met only at a certain
time. (Ex High School Diploma Age 21 or
monthly car payment bill will be the same every
    month)
  • 4. Flexible one that has no definite time
limit. Ex long distance phone bill (bill will
    change from month to month)

9
Managing resources
  • Dovetailing doing 2 things at one time,
    simplifying time.
  • Resourceful using resources around you to get a
    job done.
  • Barter trading resources with someone else.
  • Prioritize you decided which needs and wants
are more important than others are.
  • Improvising making another plan when one does
    not work out.

  • B. evaluate your performance

12
Managing resources
  • When you make a list of homework you have go to
do, you are in the management process step 1 of
    planning.
  • Wants can be considered extra things people
acquire to make life more enjoyable.
  • Needs are basic things that people must have to
    survive like food and water.

13
Managing resources
  • Setting aside money from a weekly paycheck to
buying a car later in the future would be a good
example of a long term goal.
  • Clothes for each family member to wear would be a
family need that must be met.
  • Using a family car is a want for a teenager, but
not a need. Having clothes to wear would be a
    need.

14
Managing resources
  • Having a bathroom for every family member would
be a want, not a need. Having just one bathroom
    available is a need.
  • Effective planning means that a person will use
    time wisely.
  • Passing the VOCATS ASSESSMENT TEST would be a
fixed goal for a 15 year old student.
