  the turn out of WWII and we wish to inform you
  about it.

• Commissioned in Philadelphia Navy yard
• 9,800 tons and 610 feet long

• Began voyage from San Francisco to Tinian
• 5,000 mile trip to island near Japan

• Carried components for two atomic bombs
• Uranium - 235

• Continues its trip by heading to Guam

• Leaves Guam and heads for the Philippines
• 1,500 miles from Guam

• Captain ceased use of zigzagging
• Zigzagging - Used to evade any exposure to the
  enemy

• Japanese torpedoes hit the cruiser
• Sunk in 12 minutes with 300 men still in the ship
  
• 900 men were dumped into the Pacific
