God Is Our Comfort

• Your rod and Your staff they comfort me taken
  from (vs. 4) is our thought under consideration
  in this lesson.
• Truly we all seek to be comforted when that which
  is unavoidable, unbearable, unbelievable,
  uncertain, unconscionable, uncontrollable,
  undesirable, unfair, unfavorable, unfortunate,
  unimaginable, unjust, unpleasant, unpredictable,
  unreasonable or unspeakable happens to us.

• Truly God can provide us with the comfort we seek
  after, no matter the circumstance we face!
• Why is God able to do this? He is able to do this
  because He is bigger than ANY difficulty we will
  ever face in this life!

• We can know that the identity of our comfort
  comes from FOUR sources

The Instruments of Gods Comfort

• In our text for today, the psalmist speaks of two
  instruments God uses for our comfort.
• These instruments are likened to the tools that a
  shepherd uses in his work. They are the rod and
  the staff.
• The shepherd uses a rod as a source of protection
  for his flock, and he also uses the staff as a
  source of rescue and guidance for the flock.

• God is pictured in our text as using His rod.
  This rod is a representation of the manner in
  which He drives away our enemies.
• Here is a sampling of some Scriptures that speak
  of God driving away the enemies of His people

  His staff. The staff is representative of how He
  gently delivers us from dangerous places and
  guides us in the right direction.
