The meaning of Easter

Easter
  • Easter wasnt originally a Christian festival.
  • The Anglo-Saxons used to celebrate the return of
spring. The festival was named after their
goddess of offspring and spring Easter.
  • The Christian missionaries decided to spread the
message of Easter slowly so that the Anglo-Saxons
could celebrate their pagan festivals but in a
    Christian manner.

3
What does Easter represent?
  • Its the celebration of Jesus resurrection.
  • On Good Friday we remember how Jesus was
crucified and he died for our sins.
  • On Easter Sunday we celebrate how Jesus came back
to life. We give out Easter Eggs as a sign of
new life. They can be chicken eggs Boiled and
painted or coloured. Or as most people prefer
    Chocolate.

When Easter is Celebrated
  • Easter is celebrated on the Friday to Sunday
after the full moon that is on or after the
    vernal equinox.
  • Before AD 325 Easter was variously celebrated on
different days of the week, including Friday,
    Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Now we commemorate the crucifixion on Good Friday
and celebrate the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

5
Liturgical Colours
  • The Liturgical Colour of the Easter season is
    white

Symbols
  • The Cross is the symbol of the Crucifixion, as
opposed to the Resurrection. However, in A.D.
325, it was decreed that the Cross was the
official symbol of Christianity. The Cross is not
only a symbol of Easter, but it is more widely
used, especially by the Catholic Church, as a
    year-round symbol of their faith.
