    inform members about the benefits of team riding
    and the suggested planning and conduct of a team
    ride. This should result in
  • A reduction in riding risk
  • An increase in riding enjoyment
  • A greater sense of togetherness and pride

  • Why a team?
  • There are several styles of group riding
  • Mass Riding Doing their own thing
  • Leisure Riding Loose rules and conduct
  • Team Riding Structured planning and ride
    conduct, having set Rules of the Road and
    actively working together to make the ride safer
    and more enjoyable

  • Plan the Route
  • Plan the Breaks

  • Responsibilities Lead
  • Should be experienced
  • Be able to make safe decisions
  • Sets the tone for the ride
  • Sets the speed of the ride
  • Maintains communications
  • Communicates any changes (Speed, etc.)
  • Adheres to the schedule
  • Listens to the Team Members

  • Responsibilities Drag
  • General conduct of the ride
  • Ensures that the team is abiding by the rules
  • Notices any unusual riding action
  • Secures lanes for the team
  • Drops off to offer assistance to Team Members
  • Keeps the Lead informed
  • Controls the pace of the ride

  • Responsibilities Team Members
  • Rides their own ride
  • Arrives prepared and ready
  • Makes certain that they have the ride information
  • Communicates any change in position
  • Maintains adequate spacing and position
  • Follows the Lead direction
  • Adheres to the Stop schedule
  • Minimizes CB traffic
  • Communicates any issues or concerns to the Lead

  • Responsibilities All
  • At a minimum the Lead and Drag should have
    operating CBs
  • All Team Members should be able to use hand
    signals effectively

  • Ride Conduct
  • Teams comprised of no more than 5 bikes
  • Teams spaced at a minimum of 200 yards (7 sec) on
    the highway
  • Maintain the 2 second following rule (1 sec to
    the offset bike)
  • Maintain lane position
  • Leads call for Single File formation as
    appropriate
  • Points out all road hazards (road kill, pot
    holes, etc.)

  • Ride Conduct (cont.)
  • Enters the traffic flow safely and efficiently
  • Passes traffic safely as a team on the highway
  • Passes traffic individually on two lane roads
  • Compress the formation at stop signs or traffic
    signals
  • Exits the roadway for inclement weather
  • Parks as a team when possible
