Title: The Holocaust Cost of War
1The HolocaustCost of War
- How did the Germans keep the Holocaust secret
until the end of WWII? - How did the Axis and Allied forces help or harm
the people of their countries?
2The HolocaustHitlers Nazi party had a strict
policy of anti-Semitism, or hatred of Jews. Jews
were no longer allowed in many public places.
Signs were hung saying Jews Unwelcome and
Jewish-owned stores were boycotted by non-Jews.
3The Nazis took their hatred to violent extremes
during WWII. Hitler decided to destroy the
entire Jewish population of Europe. When German
forces captured a country, they arrested all the
Jews who lived there.
4Jews were put on trains and taken to
concentration camps. People who were sent to
concentration camps had a very little chance of
surviving.
5Many were murdered right away, while others were
forced to work as slave laborers until they died
of hunger or disease.
6When Allied soldiers found these camps, they
could not believe their eyes. The Nazis murdered
about six million Jews. Historians call this the
Holocaust meaning widespread destruction. Jews
were not the only victims, the Nazis also
murdered about six million non-Jews.
7Cost of the WarWWII was the bloodiest war in
the history of the world. Between 40 and 50
million soldiers and civilians died in the
conflict.
8The world now faced a massive rebuilding. The US
took the lead. However, the world faced a new
threat, atomic bombs. People saw that it was
possible to build a weapon more powerful and
deadly than anyone had ever dreamed.
