  • TO DESCRIBE Is to give the reader information
    about a certain topic so the reader can visualize
    it.
  • What is it? What does it look like? What is it
    used for?
  • Uses adjectives numbers, colors, sizes, shapes.

The Wonderful World of Pickles
  • Pickles are great snacks. They are crunchy,
    sour, and fun to eat. They are green vegetables
    that are related to cucumbers. Some people like
    to eat them alone or on the side with their
    sandwich. Pickles are great at a picnic or at
    school. You can take them anywhere!

Compare and Contrast
  • Analyzing similarities and differences between
    two subjects to come to conclusion or to prove a
    point.
  • Thinking about how subjects are alike to find a
    connection or how subjects are the same.

Which snack is better?
  • Pickles and chips are great snacks. They are
    both crunchy and bite size. Pickles and chips
    are both finger foods. Theres nothing more fun
    than eating with your fingers! They also taste
    great as a side to your sandwich at lunchtime.
  • Pickles are sour and some people just dont like
    the texture or taste of them. However, chips can
    be fattening and are considered junk food. The
    only way a person can decide which snack is
    better is choose the one theyre in the mood for.

How to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
with Chips
  • First, take two pieces of bread. Spread peanut
    butter on one piece and jelly on the other piece.
    Then, sprinkle some chips on the peanut butter
    side so the chips will stay in place. Next,
    cover the peanut butter/chips slice of bread with
    the jelly slice. Give the sandwich a little
    squeeze and take a big bite. Enjoy!

  • Cause- the reason why something happens/happened.
  • Effects- what happens after the initial event or
    cause.
  • Is similar to sequencing events.

The Effects of Hurricane Katrina
  • Hurricane Katrina hit the southern states of
    Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama on August 25,
    2005. It caused so much destruction that
    President Bush had to declare a State of
    Emergency in the Gulf states. People from
    Louisiana to Florida had no electricity. This
    affected about 750,000 people. The city of New
    Orleans was flooded. 80 of the city and 40,000
    homes had been flooded! People were on rooftops
    and in attics to escape from the rising waters.
