  Astrid was born in 1907 and grew up in
Småland. In her stories she describes her
surroundings from her childhood. Astrids
daughter Karin wanted Astrid to tell stories for
her when she was sick. Karin found one funny name
Pippi Longstocking. So Astrid told about Pippi
Longstocking. She is a famous Swedish author.

Madicken

• Madicken has got a little sister Lisabeth.
  Theyre living with their family in a house on
  Junibacken. They have got a maid.
• The kids grow up in a small town. Madicken
  has got many funny and strange ideas. She wanted
  to jump from the root with an umbrella.

Pippi Longstocking

• Pippi was a strange name and she become a
  strange girl. The daughter Karin and all her
  friends loved Pippi. Astrid got first prize for
  the books about Pippi Longstocking. The first
  book came out in 1945.The book is very good and
  she sold many copies. Many parents thought that
  Pippi would influence their childrens education.
  In 1946 the second book came out.
