3Background on the InfoEd System
4Background on the InfoEd System
- The InfoEd eRA system is an internet based
application designed for research administration. - InfoEd consists of several modules that
communicate with each other. - As more modules are installed, the system becomes
more comprehensive in its ability to manage all
areas of research administration. - Modules currently implemented at University of
Connecticut include - Proposal Tracking OSP uses this module to track
a host of administrative and financial data
associated with the execution of sponsored
research and related projects. Also Provides
administrators and investigators with a
one-stop-shop to track the status of their
proposal submissions (i.e. funding status, date
sent to sponsor, requested and awarded budgets,
associated protocol approvals, etc. ) - Human Subjects Management Office of the IRB
uses this module to track the lifecycle of
research protocols involving the use of human
subjects. Upon request, the IRB office can use
this module to deliver a variety of updates to
researchers regarding the status of their
approvals and training certification
requirements.
5Background on the InfoEd System
- Laboratory Animals Management The IACUC office
uses this module to track the lifecycle of
research protocols involving the use of
vertebrate animals. Upon request, the IACUC can
use this module to deliver a variety of updates
to researchers regarding the status of their
approvals and training certification
requirements. - Technology Transfer The Uconn Health Center
houses this module and shares it with our Center
for Science and Technology Commercialization
(CSTC). It is used to manage intellectual
property data by serving as a central database
for all invention disclosures and related
information. The module can store and retrieve
data relating to inventors, patents, key dates
and agency contacts, agreements, documents and
communications, and financial information tied to
expenses and royalties. - Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN)
SPIN is searchable database that researchers can
use to find funding in their areas of expertise
or deliver automatic funding opportunity alerts
to their e-mail accounts.
6Background on the InfoEd System
- Todays Focus
- Proposal Development Researchers and
administrators use this module to electronically
develop proposals and route them for internal
approval. The final application package is
submitted electronically to the grants.gov web
system.
7Getting Started
8Prerequisite Software/System Limitations
- Required Software
- One of the following Internet Browser
Applications - Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
- Netscape 5.0 or higher
- FireFox (Mac users)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher
- System Limitations
- Use of InfoEds Proposal Development module is
currently limited to - Pilot group users (Pilot group yet to be
determined) - NIH applications only
- Competing applications only (Initial,
Resubmission/Competitive Renewal) - Future Developments/Rollout Plan
- Ability to
- Submit NSF proposals and NIH progress reports.
- Submit to all major federal sponsors
- Submit to private sponsors
9Accessing the System and Establishing a Profile
10Establishing a User Profile
- The InfoEd portal maintains information for every
user of the system. This information is grouped
into user profiles and consists of - Login information (i.e. username and password)
- Basic contact information (name, department,
title, phone, fax, e-mail, etc) - CV/BioSketch information
- Miscellaneous information (providing this
information is optional) - To get a profile, log on to the OSPs website at
http//www.osp.uconn.edu , access the forms
section, and complete the InfoEd New User
Account Request Form. Your login will be sent
via e-mail. - In order to use InfoEds Proposal Development
module, all Principal Investigators and their
administrators must - Provide all basic contact information by
completing the General screen in their profile - Decide if CV/BioSketches will be maintained
within the investigators profile or uploaded
individually into each proposal
11InfoEd Proposal Development Module - Key
Features Data Entry Customized for Your
Proposal
- Researchers begin by answering a series of
questions to customize each screen in a way that
meets the unique requirements for the proposal in
progress.
12InfoEd Proposal Development Module - Key
Features Data Entry Customized for Your Proposal
13InfoEd Proposal Development Module - Key
Features User-Friendly Interface
- The user progresses through a series of screens
that correspond with the funding agencys
applications forms. Multiple users can work on
the proposal simultaneously, marking each section
with a red check when complete.
14InfoEd Proposal Development Module - Key
Features Streamlined Budgeting
- Elimination of multiple budget forms streamlines
the budgeting of your personnel and other direct
costs. All financials can be entered and
reviewed in one centralized location.
15InfoEd Proposal Development Module - Key
Features Automated FA Calculation
- Built-in budgeting rules enable the system to
automatically calculate FA costs for most types
of proposals. All exempt budget categories are
appropriately removed from the FA cost base.
16InfoEd Proposal Development Module - Key
Features Simplified Document Uploading with
Automatic PDF Conversion
- Researchers upload all components of their
research plan to a central location. The system
automatically converts the file to .PDF format
for the user, regardless of the type of file
uploaded.
17InfoEd Proposal Development Module - Key
Features Easy to Manage Electronic Routing
Process
- With electronic routing, researchers and their
administrators can monitor their proposals
progression through its route at their
fingertips.
