Unemployment Insurance
You must be able and available for work unless
youare enrolled in an approved training
program. The maximum benefit in Tennessee for
basic Unemployment Insurance is 275 per week
for 26 weeks. The amount is based on base
period earnings which are the first four of the
last five completed quarters. The first week is
called a waiting week for a new claim. You
must certify each week for your benefits to
continue. You can earn the greater of 50 or 25
of your benefit amount before deductions.

Unemployment Insurance

• Severance benefits or wages-in-lieu of notice are
  not considered reportable.
• Vacation pay or holiday pay is not reportable.
• Drawing from a pension or 401K to which you
  contribute is not reportable.
• A pension which was fully funded by the company
  is considered reportable.

Unemployment Insurance
You cannot remove yourself from the job
marketunless enrolled in an approved training
program. Unemployment Insurance is taxable
income. You can have 10 deducted from each
checkor wait until the end of the year. You can
receive Social Security retirement and
Unemployment Insurance benefits at the same time.

Job Service
Job Service is a state-administered employment
service that matches qualified workers to job
orders received from employers. When filing a
claim for Unemployment Insurance, you will be
required to register with Job Service. You need
not be unemployed to register with Job Service.

Veterans Employment Services
Each office has or has access to a Veterans
Employment Service Representative who works
exclusively with veterans to assist them with
their employment search.
If you are a veteran of the United States Armed
services, let the office know when you come in
because veterans receive preference in job
placement.

Trade Adjustment Assistance
Is a federally funded program available to
workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of
work are reduced due to increased foreign
imports from any country. Workers who lose
their jobs as a result of the company shifting
production to another country may also qualify.
Services available through this program may
include reemployment services, job search
allowance, relocation allowance, T.R.A. (Trade
Readjustment Allowance), and training.

Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance

• The worker must obtain reemployment not more
• than 26 weeks after the date of separation.
• The worker is at least 50 years of age.

The worker earns less than 50,000 per year. The
worker is employed on a full time basis. The
worker does not return to the employment from
which the worker was separated.

• The worker may receive a wage subsidy of 50 or
  (1/2) of the difference between their last weeks
  wages and their new earnings
• For an amount up to 10,000 not to exceed a
  period of two years.

Trade Adjustment Assistance
Health Coverage Tax Credit (H.C.T.C.) A federal
tax credit that pays 65of the qualified health
plan premiums of eligible individuals. These
benefits can either be paid as the payment is
due or they may be claimed at the end of the
tax year.

CoverTennessee Programs

• CoverTN Offers New Eligibility Category to
  Tennesseans Between Jobs
• Governor Phil Bredesen and the Tennessee General
  Assembly have opened a new eligibilty category in
  CoverTN for working Tennesseans who are between
  jobs or have had a reduction in their work hours.
• Tennesseans can join if they meet the eligibility
  criteria and can pay their monthly premium, which
  is 2/3 of the premium amount dependent on age,
  target weight and tobacco use.

CoverTennessee Programs
CoverKids
CoverKids provides comprehensive health coverage
for children 18 and under and maternity coverage
for pregnant women. Emphasis will be placed on
preventive care and services most needed by
children, including vaccinations, well-child
visits, healthy babies program, and developmental
screenings. No monthly premiums will be charged
but each participant will pay reduced co-payments
for services. Families above the income limit who
wish to purchase coverage for their child can
buy in to the program by paying monthly
premiums.

CoverTennessee Programs
CoverRX
CoverRx is a statewide pharmacy assistance
program that is designed to assist those who have
no pharmacy coverage, but have a critical need
for medication. CoverRx will provide participants
affordable access to a covered drug list with
approximately 250 medications, mostly generic,
but including some name brands of insulin and of
mental health medications. -CoverRx will pay for
five prescriptions per month. Insulin and
diabetic supplies are excluded from the
prescription limit. -CoverRx is not insurance,
there are no monthly premiums. There are
affordable copayments which will vary with
income. If you are dependent on meds and are in
jeopardy of losing them due to prescription
coverage loss (losing insurance coverage), you
may be eligible for the CoverRX program.

CoverTennessee Programs
AccessTN
AccessTN provides comprehensive health insurance
options for uninsurable Tennesseans. All
participants in AccessTN will receive
comprehensive health coverage. Three different
plans are available with varying deductibles and
participants can select the plan that is best for
their situation. Participants in AccessTN will
pay monthly premiums for their comprehensive
health coverage. The premiums will be capped at
no more than two times the standard market rate
for a similar commercial health insurance plan.
Low-income financial help is available. If you
are uninsurable and can no longer get insurance
due to preexisting conditions or other reasons,
AccessTN should be a viable option for your
health care coverage.
