Samuel Gompers1850-1924

  • Mexican American labor activist
  • Founded the National Farm Workers Association
    (NFWA) in 1962

    conditions through nonviolent tactics such as
    protest marches, strikes, and boycotts.

Martin Luther King Jr.1929-1968
  • pivotal figure in the Civil Rights Movement
  • president of the organization which was
    responsible for the successful Montgomery Bus
    Boycott from 1955 to 1956
  • led sanitation workers in a protest against low
    wages and intolerable conditions.
  • The Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. At age 35, Dr.
    King was the youngest man, the second American,
