Title: Book of Romans Introduction
1Book of Romans Introduction ????? January 4, 2008
2- The well-known Bible translator and martyr,
William Tyndale once said, regarding the book of
Romans, that no man can read it too oft, or
study it too well for the more it is studied,
the easier it is the more it is chewed, the
pleasanter it is and the more groundly it is
searched, the preciouser things are found in it,
so great treasure of spiritual things lieth hid
therein. - The awesome truths in this book were what stirred
the heart of a monk named Martin Luther, who, as
we know from church history, began the Protestant
Reformation in the early 1500s. He later said
that Romans is, the chief part of the New
Testament and the very purest gospel. - One of the greatest theologians of all time, John
Calvin, adds, When anyone gains a knowledge of
this Epistle, he has an entrance opened to him to
all the most hidden treasure of Scripture.

41. Who wrote the Epistle of Romans? (??) The
apostle Paul wrote Romans among the 13 epistles
(NT 4 Gospel books, 1 historical, and 22
letters) here is a brief background to Pauls
life and mission. 2. Who read the Epistle of
Romans? (????) The original recipients of the
letter were the people of the church at Rome
(15-7), who were both Jews and Gentile. The
Jews, however, must have constituted a
substantial minority of the congregation (see
41 chs. 911).
5- 3. When and where was Romans written? (????)
- The book was probably written in the early spring
of A.D. 57 when Paul was on his third missionary
journey returning to Jerusalem with the offering
from the mission churches for poverty-stricken
believers in Jerusalem (see 152527 and notes). - The most likely place of writing is either
Corinth or Cenchrea (about six miles away)
because of references to Phoebe of Cenchrea (see
161 and note) and to Gaius, Pauls host (see
1623 and note)
6- 4. What are the reasons for writing this book?
(??) - Pauls reasons for writing this letter were
mainly as follows - He wrote to prepare the way for his coming visit
to Rome and his proposed mission to Spain
(11015 152229). - He wrote to present the complete system of
salvation to a church that strategically
positioned for western center of evangelism (like
Antioch as the eastern center). - He sought to explain the situational issue on the
relationship between Jew and Gentile in Gods
overall plan of redemption. The Jewish Christians
were being rejected by the larger Gentile group
in the church (see 141 and note) because the
Jewish believers still felt constrained to
observe dietary laws and sacred days (1426).

12"Was I good enough? How could I be sure? How do
you know when good enough is good enough? One
Friday night I visited with my university
professor. He was a Christian. He began
challenging me with the Bible. John 146 troubled
me the most. Jesus was saying that He is the only
way to Heaven. I never realized that and just had
to know more. Well, over the next three months I
learned more. I learned that nobody is good
enough (Romans 323). I learned that God sent
Jesus to die for me so that I could be good
enough. I learned that if I trusted Jesus He
would make me good enough. I also learned that if
I trusted Jesus, I would never be
condemned(Romans 81).I trusted Jesus. He made me
good enough, and now I'm sharing His love with
others." Rocco

the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg that
same day church doors acting as the bulletin
boards of his time an event now seen as
sparking the Protestant Reformation!!!
