7VEHICLE INSPECTIONSAND TRANSPORTATION OF
AMMUNITION
8- Vehicle operator entering the ASP for issue or
turn-in of ammunition must have hazmat
familiarization. This familiarization is good
for 2 years and provided you use this program it
can be done at the unit. - The Vehicle operator must also take Hazmat
Transportation Security Awareness Training - Be sure that your unit has the most current
version - Go to https//www3.dac.army.mil Click on
Directorate for Training - Click on CBT/WBT Products so you can take the
course on line.
9VEHICLE INSPECTIONS DD Form 626
- Its the units responsibility
- Fill out Section I thru Part 12 and have
Signature in block 16 and 26. - Present this form to customer service prior to
entering the ASP. - ASP personnel will ensure that the
blocking/bracing and tie down procedures are
properly done will fill out section III of the DD
626 and have Signature in block 25.
The driver must have a valid drivers license (
you must be licensed for the vehicle your
driving. license must have it listed on
it) License should be stamped that you are hazmat
qualified or you must have a copy of your hazmat
certificate
10VEHICLE INSPECTIONS
Vehicle must have three reflective warning
triangles no exceptions. FLAME PRODUCING
DEVICES ARE PROHIBITED ( Example use of Road
Flares)

Vehicle must have two fire extinguishers 10 BC or
larger. They must be fully charged with gages
and seals, no exceptions
11VEHICLE INSPECTIONSVehicles must have four
placards per vehicle (a trailer is considered a
separate vehicle, so it requires placards also.
Placards must be the highest hazard you are
transporting. They can not be altered in any way
and must be in good condition (if they do not
meet the standard, they will be removed by ASP
personnel). Must be able to attach them to
vehicle securely, visible in all directions and
in proper orientation.
12VEHICLE INSPECTIONSWe do not provide, or lend

13VEHICLE INSPECTIONS
- Units using DD form 626 are required
to inspect their vehicles, - Must pass all inspection points
in part 12, and have Signatures in blocks 16 and
26 of the inspection form in order for your
vehicle to be allowed in the ASP - Arrive prior to your
appointment time just in case - In addition to the required
equipment as stated on the DD Form 626 - The unit
must bring enough explosive placards, tie down
straps and tarpaulins for each vehicle.
14TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTSDD FORM 836
Units responsibility in filling out DD Form 836
This form lists all hazardous materials on your
vehicle and the procedures to follow in case of
fire or accident. Be sure to follow these
documents. This document is required to be on
the vehicle any time there is any ammunition on
the vehicle, it is also required if you park at
the AHA. Remember to use the same 836 when
returning your ammunition, repack the vehicles
according to the 836. If there are any quantity
changes, you may line through the old quantity
and write in the adjusted quantity. The 836 will
also give the net explosive weight, shipping
weight, and placards required for the vehicle.

RESTRICTIONS
This forms provides you with information
concerning route and parking restrictions.
Operators are required by regulation to have in
their possession a copy of 49 CFR Part 397
(Hazardous Materials Driving and Parking Rules).

Authorized Ammunition
Areas 1. Going directly to the ranges on/off
post. 2. Going to the AHA (Ammunition Holding
Area) located at the Upper ASP storing the
ammunition temporarily until you go to the
Range. 3. Placing the ammunition in your cell
at the Lower ASP. Storage of 1.1/1.2.1 is
prohibited. 4. Prohibited Ammunition Areas

19TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENT PLACARDS
Alterations are not to be made on any placards.
No protective coatings or changing of hazard
class is authorized.
As of Oct 2001, these placard were no longer
authorized.
The placard size and shape is directed by 49 CFR,
part 172.519. If altered beyond original size and
shape the placard is not acceptable

There is a distinct difference between a 1.1,
1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 placard. 1.1/2/3 placards will
have a picture of an explosion...
21TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTSPLACARDS
Before affixing the placard to the vehicle,
ensure you remove the letters provided by folding
them behind the placard or cutting them off. This
is example of an authorized placards
1.4 placard will not have a picture.
22TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTSPLACARDS
These are the preferred placards because they
provide all the required placards and can be
changed whenever the explosive hazard changes.
They can be permanently affixed to the vehicle.
They are most resistant to the normal wear and
tear of the adhesive placards. They are,
however more expensive, but in the long run it is
worth it if you draw ammunition

The unit provides 24 hour security for vehicles
parked inside the AHA
Vehicles may be parked in AHA up to 5 days not
including weekends or holidays
No trans-loading of vehicles No
down loading ammunition on the ground inside the
AHA No mechanical work on vehicles
Except for changing tires or replacing lights or
windshield wipers Police area prior to
leaving the AHA

If you are required to set up a field ASP you
must notify Range Control At your local
Installation for site location and approval. Also
once the site is set up you must notify QASAS or
Surveillance Inspector at your local ASP for site
inspection.
29AMMUNITION AMNESTY PROGRAM FORT
RICHARDSON/WAINWRIGHT
This program is at both ASPs to serve as a NO
QUESTIONS ASKED turn-in for small Quantities of
ammunition found on the installation. If you
have question about the Amnesty program contact
your local ASP

Be on time!! If you are late for your
appointment, you will be rescheduled. This
applies to issues and turn-ins. You must request
a new appointment date/time. You are required to
provide a detail for picking up and turning in
ammunition and residue. Ensure that you have an
adequate amount of personnel to process your
transaction. It is not the ASP personnels
responsibility to load or unload your ammunition
(unless it is unitized). Call the ASP prior to
your appointment to verify time and date. DA 581s
are already in place at the ASP.
