Background
  • There is a lot of discussion what 4G actually
    means...
  • Will it be logical successor of 3G in timely
    fashion?
  • We see at HMV that no, evolution of 3G 4G are
    parallel but starting from different paradigm,
    but possibly uniting in the Next Generation thus
    actually 5G
  • 3G is evolving from Mobile Phone to Mobile
    Communicator to Mobile PDA (UMTS, WCDMA, i-Mode,
    WAP)
  • 4G is evolving from PDA to Mobile Communicator to
    Mobile Phone (WLAN, GPRS, VoIP-client)
  • Actually, we see that there is room for both in
    the market

Towards the personal Internet in EU

Software radio
  • Re-programmable radio of the future which can be
    configured (even in real time) to function in
    many radio systems and if necessary even
    simultaneously
  • Dominant design principle in future
  • All functions are to maximum extent software
    defined
  • Includes also a smart multiband antenna system in
    the future

    radio will decrease---gt also cost of production
    is smaller

Convergence of Commercial and Military Radio
Networks

    or military networks are used as soon as they are
    available
  • European cooperation would be necessary in order
    to develop 4G tactical software radio
  • Both Commercial and Military Network will be
    IP-based
  • Commercial and also tactical routers support
    Mobile IP and IPsec
  • Untrusted Internet can be used to connect
    tactical intranets VPN(Virtual Private
    Network)
  • In principle future military multimode
    software radio can be used seamlessly both in
    military and commercial radio networks
  • core network is responsible of mobility (Mobile
    IP,Wireless CORBA)
