• In a previous article I outlined 5 skills
  required by a tender writer to craft great tender
  responses.
• Tender writing is not a skill most people can
  just pick up a quality Tender Writer will
  refine their craft over years and so it takes
  time to get to the point where your responses to

• Following are five more essential skills that
  I believe an effective tender writer requires-
• Collaboration-
• collaboration really is important. Firstly
  collaborating with others will take the pressure
  off you as you wont have to be the fountain of
  all knowledge and you can get others to assist
  you to reduce the workload a little.
• Secondly you will probably need to collaborate
  and get the specialised input from others in the
  organisation because they will have some
  specialised knowledge about pricing, about the
  experience of senior/integral personnel, about
  organisational policies or insurances, about your
  competitors there is lots of information you
  will have to pull together from a variety of
  sources.
• The more you can collaborate with others the more
  rounded and comprehensive your response should be.

• Analytical-
• it is vital that you use your analytical skills
  in many different contexts when writing ten ders
  or considering to write a tender.
• Initially you need to analyse just what tenders
  to pursue and what tenders to miss.
• You only should be applying to those tenders that
  fit your organisation and business perfectly.
• You then need to analyse the tender requirements
  and each question and criteria and identify
  exactly what information or supporting documents
  you need to prepare a robust answer/response.
• Further your analysis skills should be used to
  review and analyse financial data, statistics,
  research which might help support your tender
  response.

• Financial-
• pricing is a very important aspect of successful
  tender writing.
• You have to be competitive on pricing or with
  your budget and that means you have to analyse
  your financial situation and use your financial
  management skills to that you can compete in the
  same ball park as your competitors.
• You need however to ensure that whatever
  pricing/budget strategy you develop that this
  wont affect your future sustainability.
• Written-
• obviously you need decent written skills to craft
  responses and to prepare comprehensive answers to
  questions and criteria.
• You dont need to write like you are writing a
  University thesis because you need to write with
  a passion and a flair but yes decent writing
  skills are essential.

• Time Management-
• This is an essential skill. You need to be able
  to plan your tender response and manage all
  aspects of it to ensure you meet required
  deadlines.
• Many tenders are very complex and require
  significant input and therefore you really need
  to plan these thoroughly to ensure you get all
  the information/supporting documents you need.
• Remember a tender submitted after the deadline
  will almost certainly be rejected and not
  considered. Very very rarely will they make an
  exception.
