6The Scientific Advisory Board
- A Scientific Advisory Board proposal has been
prepared by an ad hoc committee from the MB
including Spain, Germany, Poland, France, Italy,
Slovak Republic - Each member had to provide 6 names from its own
country and 6 from abroad - 4 in basic research
- 4 in clinical research

- A short list of 48 names was prepared by the ad
hoc committee based on excellence - The Executive board prepared a list of 15
scientists who will be contacted
7Work Plan

Action in support of the implementation of a
Joint programming Initiative for combating
Neurodegenerative Diseases, in particular
Alzheimers disease (HEALTH-2010.4.2-8)

8Objectives
- Mapping of National and European research
programmes - Definition of strategic and scientific priorities
that would benefit from coordination at the
European level - Definition of framework conditions to implement
the SRA, i.e. political, legal, regulatory and
financial arrangements - Implementation of joint and coordinated research
activities responsive to stakeholder interests - Engagement of stakeholders through a
communication plan to ensure the ultimate
translation of research outputs into practice and
policy - Evaluation and monitoring of the joint activities
9WP1-Management Coordination
- WP leader Inserm (France)
- Actions
- supports the leadership of the SC, EB and MB in
guiding, directing and managing the JPND - sets the pace of the entire JUMPAHEAD and of each
WP, - ensures that all decisions taken by the governing
bodies (SC and MB) are appropriately implemented, - guarantees the necessary flow of information
among all participants of JUMPAHEAD as well as of
the JPND, - assigns and distributes the necessary resources
to individual participants, - organizes the SAB, MB, EB and SC meetings,
- prepares all the documentation necessary to
inform the European Commission of the progress
made by JUMPAHEAD.
10WP2-Development of the Strategic Research Agenda
- WP leader MRC (United Kingdom), MIUR (Italy)
- Actions
- develop a Strategic Research Agenda (SRA)
- utilise the SAB to generate an overview of
current research on neurodegenerative disorders
within Europe - Identify gaps and opportunities, and develop
recommendations for the key research priorities
and objectives - The MB will further develop these recommendations
into a SRA that will provide a framework for
effectively harnessing the European research
effort to improve prevention, diagnosis,
treatment and patient care for these incurable
and debilitating conditions.
11WP3-Implementation of the Strategic Research
Agenda
- WP leader BMBF-PTDLR (Germany), TUBITAK
(Turkey) - Actions
- achieve the objectives of the JPND initiative by
the implementation of the SRA - provide a framework of opportunities, open to any
country of JPND willing to participate in joint
actions - establish priorities based on the perspective of
the funding organizations - specify the actions, instruments and resources
available for its implementation - The MB will seek to implement the SRA in the most
effective manner, either by utilising or adapting
existing instruments and initiatives or by
launching new initiatives such as joint
trans-national calls for proposals.
12WP4-Communication and Dissemination
- WP leader HRB (Ireland)
- Actions
- define a communication plan for engaging
effectively with stakeholders - execute this plan during the coordination action.
In close consultation with the MB of JPND, the - Identify the appropriate group of key
stakeholders in the individual participating
member states of the JPND - develop the optimum modalities for the effective
communication and dissemination of JPND
information, developments and activities - By supporting key stakeholders with appropriate
information, the WP will aim to maximize both the
support for the JPND and the involvement of
participating member states in the collaborative
initiatives.
13WP5-Framework for monitoring and evaluation of
the JPND
- WP leader ZonMW (The Netherlands)
- Actions
- monitor and evaluate the merits and benefits of
this way of conducting research and its impact - enable the assessment of the impact of JPND on
neurodegenerative disease research and its
outcome - evaluate the level of success in achieving the
objectives of pooling national expertise and
resources and establishing robust collaborations
among participating states - develop short, medium and long term measures and
indicators that - improve the JPND initiative as it evolves
- provide innovative ideas on indicators of
performance and have them accepted and shared by
all the EU
