V Personal y autorización para alumnos que
están aprendiendo inglés (EL)

• Los maestros que están asignados a proporcionar
  desarrollo del idioma inglés o acceso a la
  enseñanza del currículo fundamental para alumnos
  que están aprendiendo inglés son apropiadamente
  autorizados o están en capacitación

Qué haremos para aumentar el número de maestros
autorizados?

• Meta 1
• Para junio de 2009, 87 de todos los maestros
  serán autorizados para enseñar a alumnos que
  están aprendiendo inglés.
• Meta 2
• Para junio de 2010, 99 de todos los maestros
  serán autorizados para enseñar a alumnos que
  están aprendiendo inglés.

Cómo lo hacemos?

• Un gran número de maestros empezaron la
  capacitación este año
• Más de 90 maestros empezaron la capacitación con
  el distrito.
• Más de 15 maestros empezaron la capacitación con
  una universidad.
• Más de 39 maestros pasaron sus exámenes y
  enviaron al estado su solicitud para autorización.

Y el año que viene

• La expectación es que los maestros que empezaron
  la capacitación este año
• terminarán la capacitación en 2009-2010 y
• pasarán los exámenes

Qué hacemos para animar a los maestros ingresar
en la capacitación?

• Compramos los libros que necesitan para las
  clases
• Proporcionamos sustitutos para que los maestros
  puedan asistir a los talleres
• Proporcionamos un instructor con experiencia para
  realizar la capacitación
• Ofrecemos talleres durante el día
• Les pagamos a los maestros cuando toman un taller
  fuera de sus horas hábiles
• Proporcionamos un estipendio para los maestros
  que toman el taller y aprueban los exámenes
• Proporcionamos sesiones de repaso para los
  maestros antes de los exámenes
• Ofrecemos crédito universitario a los maestros
  para que puedan subir en la escala de honorarios

Además

• Cuando reclutamos y contratamos nuevos maestros,
  estamos buscando a
• Maestros capacitados que ya tienen la
  autorización
• Maestros quienes ya están recibiendo capacitación
  para alumnos que están aprendiendo inglés de sus
  universidades
• Los maestros quienes no obtengan la autorización
  necesaria pueden ser trasladados a otro plantel,
  dependiendo de la necesidad del distrito.

Learners (EL)

• Teachers assigned to provide English Language
  Development or access to core curriculum
  instruction for English learners are
  appropriately authorized or are in training.

What are we doing in order to increase the number
of authorized teachers?

• Goal 1
• By June 2009, 87 of all teachers will be
  authorized to teach English learners.
• Goal 2
• By June 2010, 99 of all teachers will be
  authorized to teach English learners.

How are we doing it?

• A large number of teachers began training this
  year
• More than 90 teachers began their training with
  the district.
• More than 15 teachers began their training
  through a university.
• More than 39 teachers passed their tests and sent
  their application for authorization into the
  state.

And next year

• The expectation is that teachers who began their
  training this year
• Will finish their training in 2009-2010 and
• Will pass their tests

What do we do to encourage teachers to enroll in
training?

• We purchase the books that they need for their
  classes.
• We provide substitutes so that teachers can
  attend the trainings.
• We provide an experienced instructor to carry out
  the trainings.
• We offer training during the day.
• We pay teachers when they take a training that is
  offered outside of their work hours.
• We provide a stipend for teachers who take the
  trainings and pass the exams.
• We provide review sessions for the teachers
  before the exams.
• We offer university credit to teachers so that
  they can move up on the salary scale.

In addition

• When we recruit and hire new teachers, we are
  looking for
• Trained teachers who already hold the
  authorization
• Teachers who already are receiving EL training
  through their universities.
• Teachers who do not obtain the necessary
  authorization may be transfered to another school
  site, depending on the needs of the district.
