Liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension (PHT) are two closely related conditions that affect the liver and can lead to serious complications. Liver cirrhosis is a chronic and progressive condition in which healthy liver tissue is replaced by scar tissue, leading to impaired liver function. It is commonly caused by long-term liver damage from various factors, such as excessive alcohol consumption, chronic viral hepatitis (hepatitis B or C), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases, or certain genetic disorders.
