  • Slide Transitions (automatic move to next slide)
  • Hit Enter or click the mouse anywhere on the
    screen to move from slide to slide

Steps
  • Launch new project in ppt
  • Insert new slide select blank design
  • Duplicate slide 5 x
  • Format / Background choose colour
  • Apply to all slides
  • Click on first slide
  • Click on text box on bottom toolbar

  • Click on slide one and type your title Target
    Selection Activity
  • you will now record an introduction to your
    activity that will start on the launch of the PPT
  • Record your introduction (eg. Say Target
    Selection Activity. Click the Dog to begin)
  • Go to Start/All Programs /Accessories/Entertainmen
    t/
  • Sound Recording and record your sound
  • Save the wav file to a folder for your project

  • To Add Effects to your Text
  • Click on the text box
  • Select Custom Animation (this will
  • add animation features to the text box)
  • On the right of the PPT screen you
  • will see the Custom Animation
  • Palette

  • Click on Add Effect Down Arrow
  • Select Entrance / Appear
  • On the right you will see
  • a list being generated of the
  • animations you have assigned
  • to this text.click on Start With
  • Previous (this refers ito the previous
  • action performed)
  • Also go to Effect Options
  • in the same menu

  • Insert the sound
  • you recorded earlier
  • Scroll down to Add Other locate your .wav file
    where you stored it
  • Click OK
  • On start up the
  • text will appear and the sound will begin
    automatically
  • Inserting Pictures
  • Go to Insert/Picture/ClipArt
  • Find a picture you want as target selection image
    on slide 1
  • The pictures will appear on the right of the
    screen in the Clip Art palette

  • You can search for the pictures then drag and
    drop them to your slide
  • Click on the picture, hold down the mouse and
    drag them to where you want them on the screen
  • Resize the pictures by clicking on one of the
    white circular handles surrounding the picture
  • Drag to resize

  • Leave the picture until later
  • Deactivate the rest of the screen so when you
    click randomly on slide one nothing will happen
  • We want the user to develop target selection in
    specific areas / on specific targets/pictures.
  • When the click on the target they will get a
    positive reinforcement of some kind sound,
    animation, praisethese are achieved through
    custom animations and action buttons

  • To deactivate the slide to random mouse clicks
    follow these steps
  • Make sure you are on slide 1
  • Go to Slide Show/Action Buttons
  • Select a blank button
  • Once selected a cross hair
  • will appear on your screen
  • hold down the mouse and drag over
  • the entire slide.
  • An action button will now cover the slide
  • When you let go of the mouse a prompt box will
    appear

  • You want the random clicks on the screen to be
    ignored so leave the Action on Click as None
  • Click OK
  • Your button will now cover the screen. We must
    make it transparent.
  • Double click on the button

  • Click on the down arrow by Colour and select No
    Fill
  • Make sure the colour of the Line says No Line
  • Click OK

  • Right mouse click on the invisible button and
    Send to Back (objects etc. are layered in PPT)
  • Animating Pictures
  • Click on your picture
  • We are now going to add animation features to
    your picture
  • Go to Slide Show/Custom Animation
  • Click on Add Effect drop down menu
  • Choose Entrance/Bounce
  • The numbers of the Effects on the right relate to
    the objects on the screen
  • After the animation on this slide we want the
    user to click on the image and move to the next
    slide (target selection)
  • We have to add an Action Button over the picture
    area only this will respond to the mouse click
    and move to the next slide

  • Go to Slide Show
  • Action Buttons
  • Select the button that goes to the next slide
  • The cross hair will now be on your slide
  • Hold down the mouse and drag over your picture
  • Click ok on the prompt box (making sure that the
    action is to the next slide)
  • Double click on the button and change the colour
    to None
  • Click OK

  • Now your first slide should be active with the
    title automatically appearing on launch of the
    Powerpoint and the title and instructions being
    readclick on the dog to begin
  • The area on the main part of the slide will be
    inactive and only the area over the dog will
    respond to a mouse click
  • Try your activity

  • To develop target selection skills the same
    principles of design applies
  • Choose two pictures you know the student
    recognizes
  • Record the directions related to the picture you
    want to be chosen by the user
  • Add text and animate it with the recording,
    ensure that start with previous is selected in
    the Effects box
  • Insert the two pictures you have chosen
  • Add an Action Button over the entire screen and
    ensure that No Action is selected, double click
    on the button and make it transparent

  • Right mouse click on the transparent button
    covering the entire slide and select Order / Send
    to back
  • Make an Action Button over the picture that is to
    be selected by the user and have it move to the
    next slide. Add an applause sound on the mouse
    click or record a positive response (i.e Great
    Job Joey).. The next slide will provide the
    visual reinforcment
  • Make this action button invisible by double
    clicking on the button and choosing no colour
  • Right mouse click on the invisible button and
    select Order/Bring to Front
  • The other picture will be inactived by making an
    action button over that picture and choosing NONE
    for the Action on Click

  • On the 3rd slide you will use the same picture
    the user has clicked on (the desired target)
  • Add a custom animation to the picture and record
    another positive response OR applause etc.
  • We want the slide to move forward on its own
    after the reward so.
  • You can add an Action Button with no Action (in
    case the user overclicks or clicks randomly
    onscreen) and then
  • Choose Slide Show / Slide Transition
  • Under Advance Slide click Automatically after and
    insert 3 seconds. Deselect On mouse click

  • Test your activity by clicking on the first slide
    and Slide Show / View Show
  • Make any changes necessary
  • To remove an action off an image or text etc.
    simply click on the Effect listed in the Custom
    Animation palette, and select Remove

  • Continue adding pictures and changing the
    location and size of the targets to challenge the
    user to develop mouse and target selection skills
  • Have fun and enjoy
