THEORY
  • N-Body simulations in a Lambda-CDM
  • cosmology predict a diverging excess
  • of low-mass galaxies (from a few,
  • up to 100 times more) than are actually
    observed.

8
Gravitating Non-Luminous (GNL) Galaxies
  • The solution du jour is the early expulsion of
baryonic matter either at re-ionization or by
    supernova activity
  • In either case, the dark-matter galaxy excess
    remains.
  • GNL galaxies simply cannot be seen
  • because they are pure dark matter
  • but they should still be
    observable.

  • There are 127 RING galaxies cataloged to date.
  • They were all cataloged on the basis of
  • the target-galaxy morphology
  • (i.e. the ring structure) not whether
  • they had a visible companion or not.
  • But

  • But
  • all known RING galaxies do have visible
companions. And all companions measured to date
    are physical companions.
  • There are no isolated RING galaxies

  • Every bona fide one-armed spiral has
  • a clearly identified implicated companion.
  • There are
  • no isolated one-armed spirals.

  • There are 257 Arp galaxies that are
    morphologically peculiar because of
  • major distortions of the main body of the
    galaxy.

Isolated Galaxies
  • There are 1,052 galaxies in Karachentsevs
  • Catalog of Isolated Galaxies
  • Each galaxy was visually inspected and
    classified.
  • Only a handful (27 out of 1000 3)
  • show any signs of interaction or disturbance
