Introduction

• 3D extension of TreeMaps
• TreeMaps are great, but it can be difficult to
  understand hierarchical information from a
  TreeMap.
• Using the recently-discovered third dimension,
  data hierarchy can be effectively encoded
• Two existing 3D extensions of TreeMaps
• Information Cube divides a cube instead of a
  rectangle
• StepTrees Like a TreeMap, but with the
  recteangular boxes projected up a fixed amount
  with respect to hierarchical information
• We chose to implement and try to improve the
  StepTree visualization method

• Basic idea is to project elements of TreeMap in
  third dimension according to hierarchy

Improvements

• Better manipulation of geometry existing
  StepTree program is pretty clunky in this regard
• Faster details of demand
• Faster interface
• Slider that allows use to change displayed depth
  in real time
• Allow easy exploration of geometry can easily
  set a new root or explore a certain directory
• Fancy GPU shading using Cg full Phong shading
  really brings StepTrees to life
